This Gluten Free Salted Caramel Popcorn is a delicious, sweet treat to enjoy with friends at Christmas. It is the perfect blend of smooth and salty caramel covering freshly popped popcorn!
Sometimes the best pleasures in life are the simple ones! Ones that don't take too many ingredients, are just that little bit 'naughty' to make them a treat ...but the best part is to share these little sweetness with the ones you love.
This recipe for Gluten Free Salted Caramel Popcorn is for when you have been really good and deserve a treat. The smell of freshly popped popcorn is the start ...and then it is covered with a mixture of butter, sugar and a little taste of honey.
We love this gluten free salted caramel popcorn chewy...so that you can pull apart some pieces and it stretches...yep...lots of fun! (this would not be great if you have braces...sorry to my youngest son...yes I made him something else delicious just for him 🙂
Gluten Free Salted Caramel Popcorn!
- ¾ cup of popcorn kernels - popped and salted
- ¾ cup of sugar
- 125g butter
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- salt (about a teaspoon but you can add to your liking)
How to make Gluten Free Salted Caramel Popcorn!
- In a saucepan, melt the butter, sugar and the honey and bring it to the boil.
- Let the mixture boil for around 4 mins - without stirring. If you want a crispier caramel let it boil for a little longer but not too long that is burns. If you like it chewy then slightly less time. (thats how we love it!!)
- Air pop the popcorn and place the popcorn in a large bowl and salt the popcorn.
- Carefully pour the caramel over the popcorn. (* Please be careful with the hot caramel as it can burn) TIP I pour the popcorn and caramel into a non-stick frypan and stir it in there. It makes it easy to use some spoons to toss the popcorn and caramel around but also easy to clean the frypan afterwards.
- Mix it through so it covers all the popcorn -(do this quickly by using metal spoons) and then pour the caramel popcorn over a baking tray lined with baking paper.
- When it has cooled you can break it apart or leave it as a large piece to give to friends as gifts
Ok, I couldn't resist adding this photo....so this is what it is not supposed to look like....count this as a blooper!.
TIP - I left this for a little too long on the stove and yes burnt the caramel...this is not chocolate covered popcorn! :-/ and yes...I even went as far as covering some of the popcorn just so I could take this photo to show you what not to do...don't look away when making caramel!!)...
Ahhh.....This is much better!!!!! 🙂
The perfect treat to have on your Christmas table as after dinner nibbles (or even when you have been really good and need a treat at any time of the year) 🙂
