After such a popular response to 'How to Create Happiness,' I have realised that people are really interested in what are the ways to create a healthy balance of life. In such a busy world it can be hard to just take the time to notice what is working in your world and what is not.
Have you ever felt overwhelmed with everything? That feeling when there is just too much going on and you feel like you are running in circles and not getting anywhere?
It seems that just by simplifying your life (even just a little) is one of the best ways to find a healthy balanceΒ in such a busy world...
... but what does it take to simplify your life and start to make life that little bit more manageable ?
So here are six little ways to inspire you to start to simplify your life...
The six ways to simplify your life!
1. Declutter
Old things
I think we all know how it feels when you 'spring clean' and get rid of things that are clogging up your home, office and life. Those old things like clothes that don't fit, knick knacks that just don't get used, old cords, magazines, things that you just don't use or have no purpose in your life anymore.
By setting aside some time to clear out and make space, it is amazing how much 'lighter ' your world feels. For me when clearing out and decluttering, making 3 piles - keep, donate and throw, works really well as a good place to start to simplifying my world.
The computer
The same goes for your computer. These days decluttering your digital world is just as important. Clearing out old documents, files, deleting apps you don't use, or even just closing off those old tabs. (I just looked up at my tabs and I am pressing the X button as we speak!)
Your computer is filled with copies of drafts and documents that you just don't need anymore. Deleting these types of information will clear up your computer and not only save space but will make finding information that you really need a lot easier.
If you are like me and think...'Mmmmm, I just may need that', store these types of information on an external hard drive and label it 'Just In Case'. You may never need it but you will know where to look if you do.
Emails and Unsubscribe
Ok, I may not be the best at this but it is a work in progress. Emails can collect in your inbox easily, without you really realising it. Having a regular time where you go through and declutter. Just as you do with 'things' make 3 virtual piles, - keep, forward on/reply or delete.
Another way to simplify your digital world is to unsubscribe to that website that just doesn't interest you anymore. Having an inbox that is full of useful information is easy to manage, rather than one that is jammed packed full of useless information that you just scan over....(so at the end of this post, I am off to unsubscribe.... Β just make sure you don't unsubscribe to this lovely, really useful blog π )
2. Have a list of daily goals and plan your day ahead
Having a list of daily goals, even the small ones, is the best way to see what you need to do for your day. You may have a handwritten list, one on your phone or computer or displayed on a notice board.
Whatever way you keep it, if you know what needs to be done, you will be able to plan events and times and you will be more likely to succeed....plus there is nothing better than crossing off the completed task. Knowing what to expect is a great way to feeling more organised.
3. Have a morning routine
Not everyone is a morning person, but having a set routine each morning is the best way to give you the confidence for the day. You know that feeling when you rush out the door at the last minute and you are still having those thoughts of 'have I got everything' or that little nagging thought you have for the day that you were supposed to do something.
Everyone'sΒ routine may be different but having your own simple and organised start to the day will put you in a mood to deal with whatever comes along.
4. Be organised and clean as you go along
Ok, now I know this isn't anything new.... but it does make a big difference to how you feel and how you feel plays an important role in how you think.
You know how when you are trying to find something and you just don't know where it is and you have that frustrating feeling. Well having a set place for everything (not just car keys orΒ where the bills go) Β will make it easier to know where to put it back and simply, just make life easier!
5. The best tip....just say No!
When life is so busy full of work commitments, family life, daily responsibilities it is ok to give yourself the permission to just say 'No'. You don't have to feel obligated to say yes when it isn't what you want to do.
Just think you could probably do something that benefits you rather than something you don't want to do...like enjoyingΒ a coffee and baking some delicious cookies! (like these Gluten-Free Vanilla and Almond Cookies!)
6. Be Mindful
...and when all is said and done, simplifying your life is about just being in the moment. Taking the pressure off and taking the time to be relaxed.Β When you are relaxed it is the very best way to appreciate what you have and be peaceful.
There is always something to be grateful for...it may be the smallest things, events, or people but they are there. Just simplifying your world will create the time to be grateful.
Simplifying life can be a simple as practicing mindfulness... but you are probably thinking What is the hype about mindfulness?
...and I am now off to clear out my computer.... (I feel better already π )
