Gluten-Free Naan Bread that is easy to make, hot and buttery that tastes amazing and is perfect for having with delicious curries!
Curries are one of those superstar dishes, easy to make, smells amazing while they are cooking, delicious to eat and can serve a large family or group of friends. But what about the other star of the curry meal... the Naan Bread! (Ah! Yes!)
So being gluten-free, this lovely piece of bread often gets forgotten when having curry dishes (this is where we can sigh 'Ohhhh poor Naan' π).
So here is a quick recipe that is easy to make, so that you can also have that delicious bread for scooping, ripping and folding with the very best curry dishes.
Tips for making the Gluten-Free Naan Bread!
The Gluten-Free Flour
I just use the gluten-free plain flour from Aldi! Yes, it is inexpensive and it is easy to make into the soft ball of dough for the gluten-free Naan bread.
The Yoghurt
The yoghurt is what gives it that smooth consistency and I find that the natural Greek Yoghurt works the best.
Serve them hot and crispy!
The Gluten-Free Naan Bread really are delicious when they are served hot and crispy from the pan, smothered with melted butter and garlic, torn apart and topped with your favourite curries like Easy Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala, 'No Fuss' Easy Mango Chicken Curry or Tomato Chicken Curry!
How to make Gluten-Free Naan Bread
Step 1
In a bowl add in the yeast and warm water and leave it in a warm place for a few minutes for the yeast to activate and bubble. I like to keep it next to where the curry is bubbling away on the stovetop.
Step 2
In another bowl, add in the flour, yoghurt and onion salt and mix together. You can also add in other flavours like some turmeric, coriander or your favourite spices.
Step 3
Pour in the yeast and mix together. ThenΒ turn out on a floured surface and knead well to firm andΒ softball. You may need to add some flour as needed.
Step 4
Split the dough into 8, and roll out each to 5-7mm thick.
Step 5
Place into hot dry frypan and leave till bubbles form, for a minute or 2. Then turn over, coat with melted butter (add a little minced garlic if you like) and cook and then turn again to coat the other side.)
Tip, you do want some of those delicious, crunchy brown bits on your Naan bread for a traditional looking naan bread.

Thank you for sharing this. I wasn't sure how I was going to survive my Greek or Indian food now that I am gluten free. This recipe has given me hope in my new Gluten free world. I rolled out all my flat breads but only cooked two at a time. I just took one out at a time let it get to room temperature before putting it in a very hot pan. They bubbled up nicely like by gluten favorites. THANK YOU!!! Oh also, I've halved this recipe with great success as well.

I made this with Coles Gluten free flour and it was so sticky. Followed the recipe to the tee and I had to spoon and spread on the frying pan to cook. I wonder if different flours make a difference?!
Barb
Hi Any! Yes gluten free flours vary a lot! It depends what type of flours are in the blend.
For Coles GF flour you may need to add some more to the mixture, to make the dough, so it is able to be shaped. Simply add a little more at a time till it makes the dough. ππ

Hey!!
Can I exchange the yogurt for sour cream or oil?
I wan to make the tonight, so the sooner I can get any information the better!!
I'm really looking forward to these!! The last ones I made were ok, so hopefully this recipe is better!!
Thanks!
Barb
Hi Tabby! π I have tried with yoghurt -diary and coconut but not with sour cream... I think it should work. Let me know how they turn out. π

OMG!! These are the best!! I absolutely loved them! Would definitely, and will, recommend them to people!!
They tasted to good!! They were just like real ones!! I used Sour cream, and a little bit of milk to replace the yogurt, and they were good!! It was a little sticky, but once it was kneaded, it was perfect!!
Thanks so much Barb!!
Barb
Yeah!!!... π Thatβs Great!!!
